Organized and Flustered

Hello there!

Through the beginning of this year, I was trying out some new things, mostly posting on social media more. I have decided it wasn’t working, and so I’ve pretty much abandoned posting there. I feel a lot less stressed now.

About two weeks ago I created a daily schedule. All of my days are planned now, and it makes me a lot more productive, I think. Actually, I’m not sure if I’m working more, but I’m definitely more focused, and this way I actually eat three meals. The important thing is that I feel more in control.

In the spirit of organization, I organized my massive series notes for Heroes of Algar. It’s about 34,000 words, although almost half of that are scenes that I will delete once I’m sure they’re going to be in the second book. I thought organizing all of that would make me feel better. In fact, I actually feel worse. I’m extremely confused about what I’m going to write after I publish the second book. It’s kind of complicated, and I can’t really explain it without spoiling things, but being an author is hard.

Anyway, next week my aunts and cousins are going to come visit us for the first time since we moved here. Last I heard we’re renting a house at the beach so we can party all day and night. I’m super excited!

My life is pretty boring right now. Mostly I’m staring at a computer all day. My boss gave me a bunch of new things to do, so I’m trying to learn all of that. I respond to emails sometimes for the company, and I got my first frustrated customer today. Although, if people would actually read the emails we send them there would never be an actual problem.

For some reason, my body just really doesn’t like me this year. It started out with a really bad ear infection (which still hasn’t gone away) and then I’ve been assailed by health problem after health problem. Nothing major, really, but pretty inconvenient and frustrating. Like right now, my right eye has an infection, so every time I blink it hurts. Last week it was my left eye. I’m extremely confused as to why my body has decided it hates me.

Other than that, I’ve been getting into the swing of things after the move. I’m settling into life and starting to find my rhythm, which is nice. I hope all of you are doing well. Feel free to reach out to me if you want to chat. 🙂

Valentine’s Day 2022

January felt like the longest month of my entire life, but now it’s February, and it’s passing so quickly I can’t even catch my breath. I totally didn’t realize today was Valentine’s Day until my sister gave me chocolate. Unfortunately, this means I didn’t have a gift for her or anyone else in the family.

What happened in January?

So, what have I been up to the past month? Good question, let me think about that for a bit. For one, I’ve been sick pretty much the entire time. I had an ear infection in December, and it came back with a vengeance last month. While I was taking antibiotics, I contracted THE virus, which was unfortunate. My ears still hurt even now, but maybe one day they’ll go back to normal. Or maybe I’ll go deaf. Either way, I suppose it is what it is.

Book updates:

I finally finished going through my mother’s edits of the second book in the Heroes of Algar series. Afterwards, I wrote five scenes and attempted to carefully place them into the book in order to make it make more sense. My mother explained the feeling this way: “You feel like you’ve taken out the organs of the book, and they’re all lying on the operating table, and now you have to try to put everything back where it goes.” It was a nerve-wracking process, but for the most part I think it went well. I stitched the book back up and have begun to read through it once again. I’m around half-way through, and almost everything seems perfect.

Except one scene. It was something my mother pointed out which I completely shrugged off, but now while reading through it again I realized she might’ve been right. I can’t tell if it’s because I’m now looking for something wrong with the scene, or if there actually is something off about it. In either case, I’ve decided to do nothing for now until the next read through.

Yesterday, my mother and I started to paint my closet. It’s exhausting work that we did late last, but once it’s done my father will put the metal bars inside, and I’ll actually have a place to put my clothes. My room is an absolute disaster right now, but putting away clothes will certainly help it seem a little less cluttered.

My parents are building an extension off their house where the garage used to be. The house used to have three garages, and now it only has two. I’m just wondering why the old owners needed so many gosh darn garages. In any case, the construction has been a bit rough, but the drywall is going up today, which is good. The space will eventually be offices for my parents.

My family from the other side of the country is planning to come visit us next month, and I am very excited. My mother said she’s going to rent a beach house and everything when they come so we can hang out at the beach. Granted, I hate the beach, but it’ll be something to do.

Since I’ve been feeling a little bit better, I actually went to church in an effort to get to know people and maybe even make a few new friends. The one activity I went to was absolutely awful, but that’s because I can’t drive here yet, so I was stuck there until my ride left. I was gone for four hours, and as an introvert, I almost passed away. But hey, I survived, and the people there are very nice, so I suppose it was worth it.

I’ve been posting more on my socials, just as I promised I would. Twitter, surprisingly, has become my favorite platform. I don’t spend a lot of time on there, but I get more engagement there, and I definitely feel more connected to people. Sometimes I fall off the horse and forget to post, mainly because I’ve been so sick, but I’ve still been pretty consistent.

I’ve been working more too, which is great. I don’t work nearly enough for a full-time author, which is what I hope to be, but I’m making a lot more progress than I was last year, and I’m even more than halfway through another story (completely unrelated to my series) that I decided to write after the idea got stuck in my brain. It was something I came up with when I was a very small child, and my adult brain has managed to make it into something that might actually be good.

I need to write a story to offer as a subscriber special, but I have no idea what to write. It should probably be related to Heroes of Algar, but as I haven’t finished the series yet I don’t really know what will be in it and won’t be. I have an idea, but we’ll see if I actually pull it off.

Wrap up:

I segmented my blog post this time, aren’t you so proud of me? I think it makes it easier to read. I’ve been writing a lot of blog posts for Book Cave, which is where I learned about segmenting blogs. Head over to their site and look up my name if you want to see what I’ve written for them. Practice makes perfect, or something like that.

I hope you guys had a good month. Tell me about it, please, I would love to connect with you. I would love it if you would follow me on my socials, but if you don’t want to, I’ll see you next month.

Your best author friend,

New Year, New Me

Hello everyone! A lot has happened since I last wrote, which was . . . forever ago, I think. I honestly don’t even remember. Could’ve been two centuries ago, for all I know.

Welcome to 2022! You know, 2021 wasn’t too bad. I mean, it was bad, but it wasn’t bad, if you know what I mean. However, I am glad to leave it behind, and 2022 is going to be my year. And do you know why? I have clear goals and ambitions this time! No more wishy-washy, I am back for good.

Anyway, updates. I discarded college, throwing it right into the trash where it belongs, and moved instead to Florida, where my parents moved right before I went to college. I’ve been in Florida for around two weeks. I don’t know if anyone knows this, but I used to live in Utah. Utah is a desert, and Florida is more tropical. The change has been super weird.

For starters, it’s super wet here. Even the very air is hard to breathe because there’s so much moisture in it. When I got here, I could literally feel the weight of the water in the air pressing down on me from all sides. This humidity has changed a lot about my life. For one, I don’t need lotion as much anymore. I consider that an absolute win, although it might be balanced out by how much sunscreen I have to put on.

I’ve gone to the beach once, and we’re currently on our way to a different beach, and I must say, the beaches here, or at least the one I went to, have so many shells. In Portugal, there’s not as many shells.

Also, it’s warm here? Even at night I don’t need a jacket, and there’s no snow. I don’t think you understand. I went from blizzard season to summer season. People in Florida are talking about how cold it is right now, but they are wimps. They know nothing of cold.

Baking is weird here too. I made brownies and cookies yesterday for our New Year’s party, and the experience was just weird, and they tasted different. It’s going to take a while before I get the hang of cooking nearer to sea level.

In any case, my family and I celebrated Christmas and New Years, and now the holidays are over. Soon, my brother will go back to Utah, my little sister will go back to school, and I will have all the time in the world to focus on writing.

Well, not all the time in the world. I do have a job, and I’m slowly getting more hours. I much prefer working at home to an “actual” job. Have I ever told you guys how much I detest working?

I think I will write here once a month to update you guys. If all goes well, 2022 will be the best year of my life to date. I’m super excited, and I hope you guys are too. Part of my New Year’s resolution is to be more active on social media, so I post at least once a day on there. If you want to keep in touch, check any of those out, although Instagram and Twitter are my go-to. I’ve all but given up of TikTok. It’s just not the place for an author, or maybe it’s just not the place for me. Those socials are on the side bar, I’m too lazy to put the links in the actual post.

Well, I’ll see you guys next month! Byeeeeee!

Your favorite author,

College, Break Ups, and Twitter

A LOT has happened since I last wrote. First of all, I finally started college. It’s been a difficult transition, mostly because I broke up with my boyfriend the week before I moved onto campus . . . I don’t think I have to explain that one.

In addition to that mess, my parents decided to move across the United States in that same week. Family drama, new place, extra homework, no sleep . . . it’s all been very difficult.

But hey, I’m still alive, and I’m actually doing pretty good. I finally got a Twitter, and I’m already almost to a hundred followers on there, which makes me mad because it took me forever to get that much on TikTok, and I definitely try harder on TikTok.

I paid for a promotion on TikTok for my book. If an author is reading this, don’t do that. It isn’t worth the money. Really, BookTok is great and all, but you’re not going to sell books from it.

I want to do traditional publishing for my next book, but I think the only way to achieve that is to get my first book to sell. Thus, I am focusing most of my attention on marketing. However, a new book idea smacked me over the head and literally all I want to do is write it. And cry. But that’s not very productive.

Yesterday I bought eighty dollars worth of candy, mostly because sugar makes me feel better. Right now I should be doing homework, but I really just don’t feel like it. I’ve also been having a lot of technical difficulties with my new apartment and just living on campus, and I’m extremely frustrated. Needless to say, I’ve lost my motivation for the time being.

I probably won’t write here regularly, so I’m not even going to try to promise to do so. Besides, I have a newsletter now, so if you really cared, you would sign up for that . . . I’m not saying, I’m just saying.

Anyway, that’s all for now. I’ll see you whenever I next remember this website exists.

Your friend,

Fan Fiction

Hello there! It’s been two months since I last wrote, and in that time I published my first book! Honestly, it’s kind of crazy that I didn’t write about it, but that happened. You can check it out on Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Also, if you’ve bought it, I would really appreciate it if you would leave a review. I need more reviews so I can qualify for certain marketing packages. This marketing would bring in more readers, and I think we all know why that’s a good thing, hahaha.

So, I’m not sure if I told you, but I downloaded TikTok again. I’ve been creating like crazy, trying to become famous. I’ve almost got a thousand followers now, which is really exciting. One thing that’s really worked out is writing fan fiction . . . well, as much as you can write fan fiction on TikTok. Since it seemed so popular, I decided to write a full version on Wattpad. The theory is, if people like my writing, they’ll decide to read my book. Therefore, I’ve been really trying to bring attention to my Wattpad. (You can check it out here.)

If you can’t tell, I’ve been trying really hard to campaign for my book. This is mostly because I quite my job. Finals were kicking my butt, and I just didn’t have time for the job anymore. And besides, it was horrible. Seriously, it was by far the worst job I’ve ever had. After that experience, I really don’t want to get another minimum wage job, but I literally don’t have any other skills than writing. My friends have been bugging me to get a job with them, but I’m not sure . . .

Pretty much everything in my life is a mess, but I’m pretty happy at least. I don’t know what to do job-wise, but I’ll figure it out. If you have any suggestions, leave them in the comments, because I could sure use some advice.

I hope you guys are having a wonderful day, and that you buy my book. I’m sorry, this is my blog, and I will shamelessly plug my book all I want.

In all seriousness though, I hope you guys are doing well, and if you ever need anyone to talk to, my email is all over this site. Reach out, I promise I’ll respond.

Until next time,

My website updated, and now everything looks different. Not super important, but that’s the first thing I thought about when I started typing.

I’ve been gone for a while. It’s March now. A year since all this craziness started. Going outside and seeing the changing season from gray winter to vibrant springtime is super weird as it brings back a lot of memories from last year. Some of them are good memories . . . but most are very bad.

Right now, I’m listening to music I listened to a lot last year, and it is transporting me back in time. It’s very strange, and more than a little bittersweet.

I got the edits back from my last editor. It’s taking me much too long to go through them, but I’ll be finished soon. Once I’m done, it will take about a week to publish it.

I’m really exhausted because I literally never sleep, so I can’t feel super excited about it, but it really is incredible.

My last couple of weeks have been absolutely awful aside from that, but I’m not entirely sure why. I hope you guys had a better time of it.

I’ll see you again once my book is published!

See you,

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow. This is the first time I’ve ever been in a relationship for this holiday. I have no idea what to expect or how to act, but that’s true for all social situations. Have I ever told you I suck at socializing?

My first editor got back to me this week. She’s a very picky person, but she told me she liked the book, and honestly there aren’t that many edits. I’ll be finished by the end of next week. That’s two editors down, (including my mom) and one more to go. Which means my book is very close to publication.

I’m pretty happy! School is stressing me out, but my dreams are slowly but surely becoming a reality. It may be small progress everyday, but progress is progress no matter how small.

I hope you guys are doing well too. I don’t have anything else to say, as most everyday is just school, writing, and work. I don’t have time for anything else. It’s busy, but I like that way.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Welcome, 2021

My Christmas was actually really good. I got wireless earbuds, a weighted blanket, and . . . a lot of journals. A LOT of journals. I probably won’t need another journal for a couple years.

My favorite gift was probably a fountain pen I specifically asked for. I write in my journal, in pen, everyday, and so I go through both pens and journals super fast. Thus, I was given a ton of journals, and a refillable pen. I see this as an epic win.

I think only authors really like journals and pens. Most people would see stuff like that as lame.

Anyway, yesterday was New Year’s Eve, and today . . . is New Year’s Day, because that’s how time works.

Listen, my family got together and hung out, counted down to midnight, drank cider, all that jazz, but I had to work yesterday, so I was just exhausted. All I wanted to do was go to bed. Honestly, 2020 wasn’t that bad for me.

However, 2021 will be the year of my first book release. For that, I am beyond excited.

My last day at my job is on Saturday. I can’t remember if I told you that I got a new job, but I did. I don’t know when I start, but it’s probably sometime next week. Man, I am so excited. I’m so sick of my job.

I might be able to get TikTok again . . . that’s going to be interesting.

I hope you guys had some great holidays and are ready to make 2021 an amazing year!

Rock on,

Don’t Take Life Too Seriously

I’ve been taking life too seriously lately, and I started to stress out about stupid things that don’t even matter. I realized today that I need to not sweat the small stuff and instead try to have fun. I think it’s something we can all learn to do better.

Anyway, I’m getting closer to finishing the edits on my book. I’ll be done before Christmas, and then I can send it to my other editors! I’m super excited, you have no idea.

Speaking of which, Christmas is next week! I’m super excited to hang out with my family once again. Unfortunately, although school is out, I have to work every day because all of my co workers are on vacation. It . . . sucks.

My computer keeps breaking. Random keys stop working at the worst times, and, as you can imagine, it makes writing a lot harder than it needs to be. I can handle it, but I’m excited to get a new computer next year.

Despite all this, I’m still having fun. Life should be party, not a funeral. We all take ourselves too seriously sometimes. Lighten up, live a little!

I’m not sure if I’m talking to you or myself at this point.

I had a job interview yesterday! I believe it went well, but I haven’t heard back from them yet. I suppose we will see if I get hired or not.

I hope you guys have a fantastic Christmas, and I’ll see you next week.

Smile more,

So Many Edits

Hello! My mom finished my book a lot sooner than I expected, which is awesome. I’ve been going through all the edits this week, and there are a LOT of them. When I first started there was 4,300, now there are 3, 400. At this rate, it will take me the rest of the month to get through them all. I’ll try to spend a lot more time going through it so it will be ready sooner.

Fun fact, when I first started looking over the edits my computer kept almost crashing because it couldn’t handle the sheer amount of changes. It hasn’t happened for a couple of days, but it’s really annoying when it does happen.

Christmas season is upon us, and I suck at getting presents for my family. I feel a lot of anxiety about it, actually, but once Christmas actually arrives I’ll be able to stop worrying about it. I’m super excited as all of my siblings are going to be with us this Christmas.

I hope you all had a great week. Remember, your dreams can come true as long as you work hard toward them.

Your friend,
