What a Week!

Wow, time sure does fly when you’re busy as a bee! Honestly, it didn’t even really occur to me until yesterday that I should probably post something. So here I am, finally doing it.

So, last week, Wednesday through Saturday, my mother and I went camping with a group of members from the church that we belong to. It was honestly a great experience, with lots of love and candy. Lots of candy. I almost felt sick with how much candy I ate. Sugar is my kryptonite.

Last Saturday my mom and I got back around eleven in the morning. We rested for about an hour, and then we proceeded to help my brother move out of our house. This brother is married and his wife is pregnant. So, this is going to be a long explanation. Our house is kind of arranged like it was meant to be an Airbnb. On the main level you have the kitchen and the family rooms, and the top level is the master bedroom and other rooms. But the basement has its own kitchen, a few rooms, and its own master bedroom, except this one isn’t nearly as big as the one upstairs. I’m one of the lucky children in our family and my room is this second master bedroom.

When my brother got married, he and his wife took my room, because my mom said that any couple needed their own bathroom. (My room has a connecting bathroom.) When that happened, I was kicked upstairs to sleep and live in my little sister’s room, which wasn’t too bad. But now that my brother and his wife have their own apartment, I have my room back.

Moving back in took a lot of work. I have a ton of stuff, probably because I’m used to living in such large rooms without sharing with anyone else. That will probably be a problem when I leave home, hah hah. But in the meantime, I have my old room all to myself, and it is currently very neatly organized. But we all know that that will change with time. I’m one of those people who likes order, but doesn’t particularly care if there is some controlled chaos.

On Saturday I saw my older sister for the first time in over a month. I got a little emotional, though of course she was pretty much unaffected. This is the sister that is going to be editing my book. In fact, she told me later that she actually lost my book, so I sent it to her again. She said she doubted she would have had any time to look at it anyway since she also went on vacation to a foreign country during that time.

Now, I think it is time to get back into the daily grind of things, don’t you? It’s been a very busy couple of months, but everything has pretty much died back down now, so hopefully I’ll be able to find it within myself to write instead of just reading all day. Which, of course, is such a good option as well. Now, I’m going to go leave because I think I hear my to-be-read list calling my name . . .

Sincerly,

Sally

I Have Pictures!

I know, I know, I’m even later than late this time. But I hope to make up for it in pictures. If that sort of thing interests you. The reason why I haven’t been putting pictures on my blog is because I didn’t have any pictures to put up. That, and I was too lazy to take pictures with the intent to show them to you guys. But now, I will give you some!

So, last Tuesday we hopped on a plane and flew back to the U.S. It was a very long and exhausting day, but it was all worth it to finally arrive back home.

Me eating pizza in the airport.

Forgive how disgusting I look in that picture. I had been traveling all day, so I was a little worse for wear. Besides, I was also wearing glasses instead of contacts so I could try to sleep on the plane, which didn’t end up happening. I really don’t like how I look with glasses. Has anyone else noticed how one of my eyes squints really weirdly whenever I smile? I have, and it drives me nuts. But there’s not a whole lot that I can do about it.

Strange gray plants.

I spotted these on our last trip to the beach in Portugal. The dust from the road had totally covered the plants on the side of it, making them look gray and dead. I don’t think the picture shows it very well. It looked really strange when I saw it with my own eyes.

A beautiful picture of one of the palaces we visited. I took the picture from a hill that was located in the gardens.
A tiny little frog creature! I’m not sure what exactly it is, but it’s adorable!

And that’s all in the picture department! It’s kind of funny, once I started adding pictures, I didn’t want to stop!

Now back to last week. Thursday was my birthday, which was very fun and exciting. My family and I went out to eat with one of my close friends. That same friend also made me a cake, so we had two cakes that day. Then the rest of the week was spent chilling. I re-discovered my new favorite t.v. show, Max Steel. I had watched it before, but then on my birthday I had this strange desire to watch it again, so I did. Now I can’t stop thinking about it. I know, I really do love young adult shows.

Ah, yes, I almost forgot. On Friday that friend who made me a cake took me to see the new Aladdin movie. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I literally have had Speechless playing non-stop in my head ever since I first heard it. It’s honestly the best song ever.

This week my mom and I are going to go camping! I’ll give you more details on that with my next post! See you then!

Better Late Than Never . . . Right?

So, I’m late yet again. Technically, I was late last week, and I’m on time this week. I never intended to put up any blog post on Monday. I meant to always do them every Friday. Because Fridays are the best days. Friday is my favorite day. What’s your favorite day?

So, the reason why I waited until Monday to post and write this is mainly because I’m lazy. (Hey, I’m on vacation!) But it’s also because I knew it would be more interesting if I posted today. Because I have been pretty boring this last week. But that’s all about to change.

Before I get to that, I just have to comment on how weird blogging is. See, I write in my journal every single day, and while it’s a lot different than this, the concept is the same. And every time I sit down to actually write, my brain goes blank. I know I did something this week, but I can’t remember doing anything. I ate, I slept, and I drank, or at least I think I did. I’m still alive, so I guess I did.

I should stop stalling. This last Saturday we went to the beach for the last time. Well, not the last time. But the last time for a very long time. It was actually the perfect day. It was super hot, and the water was super cold, which is a good combination. And even though the sun was beating down upon us, I didn’t get burned. I was super surprised. When we got back we unloaded the car, since all of the stuff in there was our beach stuff, and took all of it inside to get ready to pack it.

I thought today was going to be pretty interesting, but so far it hasn’t been, not really. I thought all of us would be rushing around trying to pack everything in time. We’re leaving tomorrow to go back home. We have to wake up super early, and I’m not really looking forward to that. Since we’re leaving soon we are all winding down, readying ourselves to go home. But packing doesn’t take all that long, and some things you can’t pack until the last minute anyway. So we are all just lounging around, doing nothing. Well, except my mom, who got a bunch of pastries to take home. She really loves Portuguese pastries. But, other than that, I’m pretty bored.

My birthday is in two days, and I’m very excited about that. And the next week—well, I’ll tell you when I get there, but it’s going to be full of a bunch of stuff. The excitement just never ends. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

Exciting news! I decided on a title and series name for my book! I’m not going to tell you what it is, not yet. I’ll tell you guys all about it when the cover is finished and it’s close to coming out, which might take a while. But I promise it will happen! I’m aiming for it to be out before summer ends. I hope you’re as excited as I am!

Until we meet again! Remember to tell me what your favorite day of the week is and why in the comments below!

Have a great week!

Favorite T.V. Show?

Hey everybody! Lately, I’ve been watching Avatar the Last Airbender with my little sister, who had never seen it before. I love that show so much, and I’ve watched it quite a few times. I was so sad when we finished watching it. However, it’s not my favorite movie/T.V. show. Rise of the Guardians is my favorite movie. And now you know that I like kid shows. Well, it’s not a crime. Besides, they’re more young adult, and that’s what I write, so I guess it makes sense. Anyway, I wonder what your favorite movies/T.V. shows are? Tell me in the comments below!

Now it’s time for what happened to me this week! Well, just barely I realized how to turn comments on in my blog. Hopefully it’ll work on this one too. Maybe I’ll become an expert with a lot of practice. Blogging aside, I became a citizen of Portugal this week! Well, kind of. Let me explain.

I became a citizen a while ago. But I didn’t receive my identity card until this week. For those of us who live in the United States, it’s kind of like a driver’s license, but it doesn’t allow you to drive. It just tells people that you are a Portuguese citizen and have a right to be here. I believe the driver’s license is a separate card that you can get.

Anyway, so that was kind of exciting. They fingerprinted me and everything. That only made me slightly nervous, hah hah. Okay, it made me a lot nervous. Not like I plan to do anything that they’ll need my fingerprints for.

This week my family got in a car and rode up north where we would stay with some of our relatives while we went sight-seeing. As we drove up, we stopped a few times to visit other places that we wanted to see. We got back from our trip up north really late at night on Saturday, which is why this blog post is going out so late. I promise, once I’m off vacation I’ll post regularly.

For any of you that have visited another country, I’m sure that you’ll sympathize with how weird the time difference is. I have to wait for hours after I wake up to talk to anyone back home. And by the time they actually fully wake up and start doing stuff, I’m getting ready for bed. It’s insane, and has made me realize how few hours there are in a day.

Speaking of how little hours there are in a day, I haven’t done much writing lately. Currently, I’m writing the sequel to the book I’ve already written, because I have nothing better to do while I wait for my editors to finish editing it. I know what happens next, but I hit a block in how to get there. But I’m sure I’ll figure it out eventually. I think the more I struggle to come up with the idea, the better the idea is. That makes sense, right?

Yesterday we saw some friends from back home. Their mother, my “aunt,” is also Portuguese. I’m not exactly sure how she met my mother, but they are really close friends, which is why I tend to call her kids my “cousins.” We’re not actually blood relatives, but I’ve seen them often enough growing up that they feel like they’re part of my family. I’m super glad that I get to hang out with them throughout this next week. Speaking of this next week, it is pretty much the last week that we’ll be in Portugal. That is sure to be interesting.

Remember to tell me what your favorite movies/T.V. shows are! I would love to hear them and see if we have any similar interests!

Sincerly,

Sally

Do I Have Any Idea What I’m Doing?

The answer is no, no I don’t. Yesterday I researched what made a successful blog successful, but it didn’t help much other than reiterate what I already knew. So, that said, go easy on me, because this is my first time doing anything like this.

So, welcome to my blog! I’m Salandra, but you can call me Sally. I’m an “author.” The quotes are there because I haven’t actually published anything yet, but I’m super close. I’m so close I’ve already written it and edited it myself. All it needs is the cover and the edits done by other people. Do you know how excited I am to finally publish a book? I’ve been trying to write a book since I was six. That’s a lot of years of book writing.

I’m going to tell you a little more about myself before I get into what’s been going on recently. I love to read and write, always have and probably always will. Writing is pretty much my passion, and while I’ve tried a lot of things and have gotten good at them, nothing is as fulfilling as writing is. I really do love it, and you’re supposed to have a career that you love, aren’t you? Let’s just hope I can make this hobby into a career!

I still live at home, and I love my family, so don’t be surprised if I mention them a lot. Currently, four of my nine family members are staying in Portugal with my grandmother. That includes me, by the way. Portugal is kind of underrated, and most people I’ve talked to don’t really even know it exists. So, I’ll tell you right now that Portugal is right next to Spain. It borders the Atlantic ocean. As a result, we normally go on a lot of beach trips. Unfortunately, yesterday my little sister dropped her metal water bottle that was full of water onto her foot. She’s in a lot of pain, and it’s possible that she fractured her toe. It looks really gnarly too. Or maybe I just have a low tolerance for that kind of stuff.

On top of that, my mother dropped her phone the other day and lost it for a half hour. After it was returned we saw that it had been ran over by a car and was totally broken. Luckily, we were able to save all the pictures, and the card is okay, so she’s using a phone that my uncle had lying around. Why he had an extra phone, I will probably never know.

So it’s been just a little crazy during this particular Portugal vacation, though normally this sort of stuff doesn’t happen. I’ve gone to Portugal a lot, because my dad is from there. But don’t worry, I’m still having fun.

Some of you might be very interested in the author aspect of me. I’ll tell you a little about it since you can’t read any of my works right now. Most of the time I write fantasy with a hint of romance. The romance isn’t intentional, it just seems to sneak into everything that I write. I’m not sure what that says about me. I have some science fiction ideas too, but I will never write nonfiction, and it is doubtful I will ever write normal fiction, without fantastical beast or some kind of crazy twist. Just like the romance, fantasy and sci-fi just seems to sneak into everything I write. All of my books will be totally clean aside from death and blood. But I’m never too graphic, because, like I said above, I really can’t stomach gore and stuff like that.

Alright, I’m going to be real with you right now, because that’s one of the tips that I read about yesterday. I’m not really sure at all about this. And by that, I mean I’m not entirely sure I can become an author and be able to make enough money to continue to be an author. I’m not even sure if I should be telling you this. Really, I can try all I want, but it’s up to you guys if I want to go anywhere with this. Yesterday I asked myself why I wanted to write. And the answer was because I want to help people. Whenever I read books I leave my own problems behind and live out something exciting. It helps me deal with things better. And I want to give that to you, especially in this world where violence and sensuality is becoming so normal you can’t find any entertainment without it. So I want to give you something you can read, feel happy about, and get lost in, without feeling any guilt, remorse, or hesitation. I also really want to talk to you guys, get to know my “fans.” I feel kind of pretentious saying you’re my fans, especially since this is my first post. But I hope I can go somewhere with this, and I will totally keep pushing until I can’t push anymore.

That said, I don’t know how long a post is supposed to be, so I’ll just end it here. Feel free to contact me, check out my other blog posts (if there are any yet), subscribe, leave a like, comment . . . wait, this isn’t YouTube! My bad. Some things never die.

Happy reading,

Sally
